Received several emails on our neighborhood site this morning regarding suspicious cars roaming the neighborhood and rifeling through trash cans and taking items from them last night. Beware of potential identity theft!
Most consumers are unaware that their homeowners policy provides help and support for id theft. Most will help the insured pay for costs on fighting the id charges and paper work that will need to be filed. The average cost of getting all this corrected is $50K. Most policies will pay up to $25k for only an extra $50 to your home premium.
Make sure to have your credit report checked weekly, most banks will do this for you. Wells Fargo Bank will monitor your credit report and send you weekly notices.
Go to freecredit report.com every year and make sure there are no false addresses or alias.
Properly destroy paperwork or bills with personal information before depositing in the trash. A shredder at Walmart can cost $50. ;)
